The science bit
Sign Shop Lincoln’s Hotronix Fusion IQ uses dye sublimation technology at its absolute best and most precise. Gone are the days of giving customers tatty promotional items with ink that rubs off…along with your corporate logo! No more football team shirts with their squad numbers peeling off halfway through the season! Dye ,or digital, sublimation, allows for the printing of images on polyester and treated cotton fabrics, as well as non-fabric surfaces such as placemats, mouse mats and coasters. Pressure and heat are applied to solid dye, with an endothermic reaction altering its state to a gas. The liquid phase is bypassed, in essence the dye is printed into, rather than onto, the fabric or surface.
When the dye is heated into polyester fabric, the polymers in the polyester help the inks to bond, fully embedding the design into the fabric. With the ink embedded directly into the polyester fibres, the design feels part of the garment – not just stuck onto its surface. This process enables Sign Shop Lincoln to recreate any graphics onto t-shirts, hoodies, banners, tablecloths and flags in full colour, to stunning effect.
